By now you know I am a big fan of collaborations and brand partnerships. It is one of many ways to grow awareness and generate interest for brands or talent when two unexpected parties come together to create a product.
In an effort to support a new generation of designers, the team at One King’s Lane engaged students at Parsons The New School for Design {Marc Jacobs’ & Jason Wu’s alma mater BTW} to create a scholarship program supporting future designers. To launch it, a group of students were given the opportunity to come up with fun, designs for beach towels with a summertime theme. One King’s Lane actually realized the students’ designs and produced the towels which they are currently selling on-line through Saturday. The proceeds will go towards a scholarship supporting young designers at Parsons. The towel designs are pretty fabulous, and while they originally retailed for $65 each they are currently marked down to $29 each.
Here are some of my favorite designs from the collaboration:
1 | design by Julie Hanna {Communication Design Student}
2 | design by Natasha Jiwa, {Graphic Design Student}
3 | design by Paige Weinman, {Graphic Design Student}
4 | design by Katharine Kmiecik, {Fashion Design Student + aspiring accessories designer}
5 | design by Ashley Bass, {Integrated Design Student}
You can see additional designs here.
Supporting young talent + fun beach towels to help the cause is a fantastic combination. The student designers will benefit from being exposed to One King’s Lane’s 131k Facebook fan following, and we just might end up owning a towel designed by the next big design star!
